"The sides of the forlorn boat are perforated with short passages of text from the Odyssey. The sailor hero of the ancient epic fought for ten years to get back home, Bedsole pointed out. She optimistically believes that at the ten year mark the New Orleans region will have recovered as well.  Made of COR-TEN steel, the translucent boat is meant to rust, but will resist the weather indefinitely. The proper scale of the sculpture, its picturesque location near the Lafreniere fountain, and its enduring poetic message make it an perfect public art fit for the popular suburban site."
